About

This blog was created to provide information about the ongoing efforts to revitalize Fukushima following the 2011 Tohoku earthquake, and resulting tsunami and nuclear disaster at Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. It contains news and translations from a variety of sources that highlight not only the reconstruction efforts in the disaster affected areas, but also news and cultural information from Fukushima Prefecture.

Andrew Coombs is a freelance translator based in Fukuhsima. He worked in Fukushima on the JET Programme from 2006-2011, and continued to work in a private position in Fukushima for 3 years following the 2011 earthquake. Andrew currently resides in Fukushima City after completing the Master of Interpreting and Translation Studies programme at Monash University in Melbourne where he translated work by Fukushima based poet Ryoichi Wago.

The wind blows in Fukushima
The stars shine in Fukushima
The trees bud in Fukushima
The flowers bloom in Fukushima
Live in Fukushima

Live Fukushima
Love Fukushima
Don’t give up Fukushima
Believe Fukushima
Walk Fukushima

Call the name Fukushima
Think proudly Fukushima
Give the children Fukushima
Hold tightly Fukushima

Shed tears with Fukushima

Cry in Fukushima
Crying Fukushima
Cry with Fukushima
Cry for Fukushima

I am Fukushima
Home is Fukushima
Life is Fukushima
You are Fukushima

Mothers and Fathers are Fukushima

Clouds are Fukushima

Protect Fukushima
Take back Fukushima
In our hands Fukushima
Live Fukushima
